🌡 CLIMATE CHANGE
Two decades of research have now shown that both prenatal and postnatal air pollution is linked to reduced cognitive development in children including lower IQ, ADHD, autism, depression and anxiety, and such damage is cumulative. Furthermore, the placenta is not, in fact, an invulnerable shield, nor is a baby’s blood-brain barrier impenetrable to toxins.
Virus-infected cells — virocells — change their host cells’ metabolism which impacts the degree to which they absorb nutrients in the ocean. Ocean bacteria can remove up to 30% of anthropogenic CO2. Synechococcus cyanobacteria, is one such example; but as its metabolism changes, it can have adverse impacts on the ocean.
New research suggests that sulfate aerosols, particles on which cloud droplets can form, may be responsible for faster global warming than previously estimated.
🔋 CLEAN ENERGY
On average, the entire EV production cycle — from manufacturing to battery recycling — produces about 35% less emissions than their ICE vehicle counterparts, and saves 50 to 70% in CO2 emissions, with only one to two years needed to recoup battery production emissions. Meanwhile, 78 out of 3,000 US counties result in higher lifetime emissions than ICE vehicles, but as coal and oil starts to get phased out, these numbers will only improve.
Startup Quaise Energy (Crunchbase) is applying mmWave technology to melt and then vaporize deep hole (20 km / 12 mi) geothermal drilling to enable unlimited clean energy around the world. They’ve raised $70M in their Series A round so far.
Los Angeles-based incubator AltaSea is focused on all things “blue economy,” i.e., the ocean. It sits on 35 acres and will soon produce enough solar energy to send energy back to the grid while also serving as a testbed for ocean wave energy and hydrogen.

đźš— AUTONOMOUS & ELECTRIC VEHICLES
Tesla may now be one of TSMC’s largest customers with a new order of 4-5 nm chips to upgrade its so-called “Full Self Driving” computer.
British startup Ev.energy (Crunchbase) is developing a vehicle-agnostic two-way communication system between the grid and EVs to enable more energy efficient usage of power between grid and vehicles.
American pizza company Domino’s Pizza, the largest pizza company in the world, is adding 800 2023 Chevy Bolts to its delivery fleet. This will help increase profit margins while also attracting drivers who don’t have their own vehicle.
🎉 THAT’S ALL FOR TODAY!
Thank you so much for reading, see you tomorrow!-Marc
