UNICEF just reported that 5.3 million children in Egypt are now in the “extremely high risk” category for suffering the impacts of climate change ranking 7.3 out of 10, the highest in the Middle East / North Africa (MENA). The entire MENA region as a whole includes some 86 million children and 34 million youths facing such risks.

How US renewable energy adoption compares to other major emitters (long read)
Some 58% of global greenhouse emissions come from the US, China, EU, and India. Specific output of emissions is by far highest in the US, with 15,704 tons of CO2 equivalent per person, followed at a distant second by China with 9,106 tons; EU at 6,327 tons; and India at 1,958 tons. The rest of the world combined makes up just 2.2 tons of CO2 equivalent per person. In the US, renewable energy is now the fastest growing source of energy, with 20% of utility power coming from renewables as of 2020; China is on track to reach 33% by 2025.

Tesla Model Y becomes best-selling car in Europe, and might be for a while (quick read)
After achieving the number one spot for several different countries over the years, Tesla’s Model Y is now the number one best-selling car in all of Europe, ousting the Peugeot 208 and pushing Dacia Sandero to third place. Interestingly, both the Peugeot and Dacia are much less expensive to buy than the Tesla, starting at about €15,000 and €12,000 respectively vs the Model Y at €50,000.
EU officially inks complete ban on new combustion vehicles from 2035 onward (quick read)
The sale of new internal combustion engine vehicles including personal cars and vans will be banned across the entire European Union from 2035. Certain small output manufacturers, like Lamborghini for example, will have an extra year to comply.
This oil giant and Hertz are building a massive fast-charging network for EV rentals starting at LAX (quick read)
Hertz, which made recent news with its massive order of 100,000 Tesla vehicles, has partnered with BP Oil’s Pulse charging infrastructure unit, to develop a network of high speed EV chargers in high demand locations like airports. Specifically, BP Pulse will manage the charging infrastructure that Hertz will use to power its battery-powered fleet of vehicles.
